recessively
Not dominantly expressed
Recessively describes how something operates in a subordinate or withdrawn manner, most commonly in genetics.
A recessively inherited trait requires two copies of a gene—one from each parent—to be expressed, remaining hidden when paired with a dominant version.
The disease is passed recessively, so carriers show no symptoms.
Outside genetics, recessively can describe anything that retreats or yields to a more dominant force.
