recce

Scouting mission, briefly

Recce is British military slang for reconnaissance—a preliminary survey or exploration to gather information.

Used as both noun and verb: We did a recce of the area before the operation, I'll recce the venue tomorrow.

The word has spread to civilian use for any scouting trip or advance look at a location.

Pronounced "RECK-ee."
