rare earth magnet
Powerful lanthanide attractor
A rare earth magnet is a powerful permanent magnet made from alloys of rare earth elements—typically neodymium or samarium-cobalt.
These magnets are significantly stronger than conventional ferrite or alnico magnets, used in hard drives, headphones, electric motors, and wind turbines.
Despite the name, the elements aren't especially rare, just difficult to extract.
