race walking
Fast but grounded
Race walking is a competitive track and field event in which athletes walk as fast as possible while maintaining continuous contact with the ground—one foot must touch before the other lifts.
The leading leg must also straighten at the knee.
These rules produce the distinctive hip-swaying gait that distinguishes race walking from running.
She competed in the 20-kilometer race walk at the Olympics.
