putt-putt
Small-course golf game
Putt-putt imitates the sound of a small engine firing repeatedly—the sputtering exhaust of a lawnmower, outboard motor, or golf cart.
The word names things that make this sound: a small motorboat, a go-kart.
Putt-putt is also informal for miniature golf, where players navigate obstacles on a small course: We took the kids to play putt-putt.
