psychological projection
Attributing your faults
Psychological projection is attributing your own unacceptable thoughts, feelings, or motives to someone else.
A person who habitually lies may accuse others of dishonesty; someone harboring resentment may insist others are hostile toward them.
The term comes from psychoanalysis, where projection is considered a defense mechanism—a way of disowning uncomfortable aspects of oneself by seeing them in others instead: He's projecting his own insecurities onto you.
