stereographic

Circular projection method

Stereographic describes a method of projecting a three-dimensional surface onto a flat plane, particularly used in cartography and crystallography.

A stereographic projection maps points from a sphere onto a plane by projecting from a single point on the sphere's surface: stereographic maps distort area but preserve angles.

The technique also appears in photography and optics for creating or analyzing three-dimensional images.
