printing plate
Press's image source
A printing plate is a flat surface, typically metal, that carries an image or text to be transferred onto paper or other material during printing.
The plate is inked, and the ink adheres only to the image areas before being pressed against the printing surface.
Different printing methods use different plate types: lithographic plates work through chemical properties, while letterpress plates have raised surfaces.
The printer examined the printing plate for scratches before starting the run.
