primal scream
Raw emotional release
A primal scream is an intense, unrestrained scream meant to release deep emotional pain or trauma.
The term comes from primal therapy, a 1970s psychological treatment where patients accessed buried childhood trauma through uninhibited screaming and crying.
More loosely, any raw emotional outburst: After the election results, social media became one long primal scream.
