pressure ulcers

Immobility skin wounds

Pressure ulcers are wounds that develop when sustained pressure cuts off blood flow to skin and underlying tissue, typically over bony areas like heels, hips, and the tailbone.

They affect people who cannot easily shift position—bedridden patients, wheelchair users.

Also called bedsores or decubitus ulcers.

The nursing home was cited for failing to prevent pressure ulcers.
