predentin
Unmineralized tooth matrix
Predentin is the unmineralized organic matrix that forms the initial layer of dentin in developing teeth.
Odontoblasts secrete this collagen-rich material, which then mineralizes to become mature dentin.
The term appears primarily in dental and developmental biology contexts: A layer of predentin is always present at the pulp-dentin border during tooth formation.
