postcommunism
After the curtain
Postcommunism refers to the political, economic, and social conditions in countries after the collapse of communist rule, particularly following the Soviet Union's dissolution in 1991.
The term describes both a historical period and the challenges of transition—market reforms, democratic institution-building, and reckoning with authoritarian legacies: postcommunism in Eastern Europe, the postcommunist transition.
