ball screen
Offensive blocking maneuver
A ball screen is a basketball play where an offensive player sets a screen—positions their body as an obstacle—for the teammate handling the ball.
The ballhandler uses this human barrier to create separation from their defender, opening lanes to drive, pass, or shoot.
Also called a pick and roll when the screener moves toward the basket afterward: They ran a ball screen at the top of the key.
