hero ball
One-man offense syndrome
Hero ball is a style of play in team sports—especially basketball—where one player ignores teammates and tries to win through individual effort, taking difficult shots or making risky plays instead of passing.
The term is usually critical, implying selfishness or poor judgment: He went into hero ball mode in the fourth quarter and we lost.
Sometimes the hero ball player succeeds, but the attempt is rarely praised regardless of outcome.
