phonogram

Letter representing sound

A phonogram is a written symbol representing a sound or combination of sounds, as opposed to an ideogram, which represents a concept.

The letters of the alphabet are phonograms.

In early literacy instruction, phonograms often refer to common letter combinations that produce consistent sounds: -ight, -tion, -ough.

Historically, phonogram also meant a recording made on a phonograph.
