cablegram
Transatlantic wired message
A cablegram is a telegram sent by undersea cable, especially across the Atlantic.
The word dates from the era when international messages traveled through cables laid on the ocean floor.
Now largely obsolete, replaced by electronic communication: He received a cablegram announcing his father's death.
