Rock composition analysis
Petrographical means relating to petrography—the branch of geology concerned with describing and classifying rocks based on their mineral composition, texture, and structure.
The work is typically done by examining thin slices of rock under a microscope: petrographical analysis, petrographical studies of volcanic samples.
