perinatologist
High-risk pregnancy doctor
A perinatologist is a physician who specializes in high-risk pregnancies and the health of fetuses and newborns during the period shortly before and after birth.
Also called a maternal-fetal medicine specialist, a perinatologist has additional training beyond obstetrics to manage complications such as preterm labor, multiple pregnancies, or maternal health conditions that could affect the baby.
Her doctor referred her to a perinatologist when the ultrasound revealed potential concerns.
