penguin colony
Huddling bird group
A penguin colony is a large breeding aggregation of penguins, sometimes numbering in the thousands or hundreds of thousands.
Penguins nest in dense groups on remote coastlines and islands, returning to the same colonies across generations.
The term applies both to the gathering itself and the physical site: The documentary crew spent months filming an emperor penguin colony in Antarctica.
