peer mentor
Equal who counsels
A peer mentor is someone of similar age, rank, or experience who guides another through a shared context—a fellow student helping a freshman navigate college, or a recovering addict supporting someone newer to sobriety.
The relationship differs from traditional mentorship in that the mentor isn't an authority figure but someone who has recently faced the same challenges: My peer mentor helped me adjust to campus life.
