student senate
Undergraduate governing body
A student senate is a representative governing body at a college or university, composed of elected students who advocate for student interests and allocate funds for campus organizations.
The term borrows from legislative bodies to give the institution a sense of formal authority: She ran for student senate her sophomore year.
Also called student government or student council, though senate implies a more deliberative structure.
