past master
Thoroughly experienced hand
A past master is someone who has achieved complete mastery of a skill or subject—an expert of the highest order.
The term originally referred to someone who had served as master of a Freemason lodge or guild, but now applies broadly: She's a past master at negotiation.
The spelling "passed master" occasionally appears but is nonstandard.
