party control
Faction holds power
Party control refers to which political party holds power over a governing body—a legislature, state government, or branch of government.
The term appears most often in discussions of elections and their consequences: Republicans gained party control of the Senate, Party control of the House shifted after the midterms.
In American politics, party control determines committee chairs, legislative agendas, and which bills reach a vote.
