loyalty oaths
Sworn fidelity statements
Loyalty oaths are formal pledges of allegiance or fidelity, typically required by governments or institutions.
In the United States, loyalty oaths became controversial during Cold War anticommunist campaigns, when employees were required to swear they weren't members of subversive organizations: Teachers who refused to sign the loyalty oath were fired.
The practice raises concerns about political coercion and free speech.
