parlour game

Living room entertainment

A parlour game is a social game played indoors, typically requiring little or no equipment—word games, guessing games, charades, and the like.

The term evokes Victorian and Edwardian gatherings where such diversions entertained guests in the parlour, the formal sitting room.

Now somewhat old-fashioned, often replaced by "party game": We played parlour games after dinner.
