parataxis

Clauses without connectors

Parataxis is placing clauses or phrases side by side without conjunctions or explicit connections: I came, I saw, I conquered.

The technique creates a staccato, punchy rhythm and leaves logical relationships for the reader to infer.

It contrasts with hypotaxis, which uses subordinating words to show how ideas relate.

Common in headlines, commands, and literary prose seeking directness or urgency.
