page numbering
Sequential document labeling
Page numbering is the system of assigning sequential numbers to pages in a document, book, or manuscript.
It allows readers to navigate and reference specific locations: The page numbering starts after the table of contents.
In publishing, front matter often uses Roman numerals while the main text uses Arabic numerals.
Documents may have continuous page numbering or restart numbering for each section.
