overseers
Those who monitor
Overseers are people who supervise or watch over something—workers, operations, or processes.
The term historically refers to those who managed enslaved laborers on plantations, a brutal role that makes the word carry harsh connotations in American contexts: The overseer drove the field hands from dawn to dusk.
In modern use, overseers tend to be officials with monitoring duties: congressional overseers of the intelligence agencies.
