overarousal

Too much excitement

Overarousal is a state of excessive physiological or psychological activation, where the nervous system is more stimulated than optimal for a given situation.

In psychology and sports science, it describes heightened anxiety, tension, or excitement that impairs performance rather than enhancing it: His overarousal before the match led to costly mistakes.

The term also appears in discussions of trauma and sensory processing, where chronic overarousal can manifest as hypervigilance, difficulty sleeping, or being easily startled.
