ordinal numbers
First, second, third
Ordinal numbers indicate position in a sequence: first, second, third, fourth, and so on.
Where cardinal numbers answer "how many," ordinals answer "which one in order": She finished third in the race.
They're used for rankings, dates (March fourth), and monarchs (Elizabeth the Second).
Most ordinals add -th to the cardinal, with irregular forms for first, second, and third.
