open-closed
Two opposite positions
Open-closed describes something that combines or alternates between open and closed states.
In software engineering, the open-closed principle holds that code should be open for extension but closed for modification—you can add new functionality without changing existing code.
The term also appears in mathematics and topology to describe sets or intervals that are open on one end and closed on the other: The interval (0,1] is open-closed.
