oil burning
Fuel consumption method
Oil burning describes engines, furnaces, or other equipment that uses oil as fuel: an oil-burning furnace, oil-burning power plants.
The term distinguishes these from alternatives that run on gas, coal, electricity, or other energy sources.
Oil-burning technology dominated heating and transportation through much of the twentieth century before environmental concerns prompted shifts toward cleaner fuels.
