nonrecognition

Refusal to acknowledge

Nonrecognition is the refusal or failure to acknowledge something formally.

In international relations, it describes a government's policy of not recognizing another state or regime: The U.S. maintained a policy of nonrecognition toward the new government.

In tax law, nonrecognition refers to transactions where gains or losses aren't immediately taxed: a nonrecognition provision.
