invalid

Not legally binding

Invalid has two distinct pronunciations with different meanings.

With stress on the first syllable, an invalid is a person weakened by illness or disability: She spent years caring for her invalid mother.

With stress on the second syllable, invalid means not valid—legally void, logically unsound, or technically rejected: an invalid passport, an invalid argument, invalid data.

The verb invalidate means to render something void or ineffective.
