nonoccurrence
Failure to materialize
Nonoccurrence is the failure of something to happen—the absence of an expected or possible event.
The term appears most often in legal, insurance, and scientific contexts, where establishing that something did *not* occur matters as much as proving it did: The policy covers losses from the nonoccurrence of scheduled shipments.
Proving nonoccurrence is notoriously difficult.
