night terror
Unconscious nocturnal panic
Night terrors are episodes of intense fear during sleep, typically occurring in children.
Unlike nightmares, the sleeper doesn't fully wake and rarely remembers the experience afterward.
They may scream, thrash, or appear terrified while remaining unresponsive to comfort: The pediatrician said night terrors usually resolve on their own.
Also called sleep terrors.
