nasalisation

Speaking through nose

Nasalisation is the British spelling of nasalization—the production of sounds through the nose, or the process of making sounds nasal.

In speech, nasalisation occurs when air flows through the nasal passage while speaking, as with the sounds m, n, and ng.

Some languages nasalise vowels, giving them a distinctive resonance: French has significant vowel nasalisation.
