uvular

Near the dangler

Uvular describes sounds made with the back of the tongue near or touching the uvula—the small fleshy extension hanging at the back of the throat.

The uvular R in French and German differs from the tongue-tip R in Spanish or Italian.

English has no uvular sounds in standard speech, making them notoriously difficult for English speakers learning languages that do.
