A mystery shopper is someone hired to pose as an ordinary customer and evaluate a business's service, cleanliness, or compliance with standards.
Companies use mystery shoppers to assess employee performance without staff knowing they're being observed: The mystery shopper noted that no one greeted her when she entered.
