myrtle

Aromatic evergreen bush

Myrtle is an evergreen shrub with fragrant white flowers and dark berries, native to the Mediterranean.

It has been associated with love and marriage since ancient times, often appearing in bridal bouquets and wreaths.

The name extends to several unrelated plants, including crape myrtle and periwinkle (sometimes called running myrtle).

The garden was bordered with myrtle hedges. (Capitalized Myrtle is a given name.)
