mountain meadows
High elevation clearings
Mountain meadows are grassy, open areas found at high elevations, typically above the tree line or in clearings within mountain forests.
They appear where conditions prevent forest growth—shallow soil, harsh winters, or heavy snow accumulation.
These meadows often burst with wildflowers in summer and provide grazing habitat for wildlife.
We hiked through alpine terrain until we reached a mountain meadow carpeted with lupine.
