mining camps
Prospectors' temporary settlements
Mining camps are temporary settlements established near mines, typically during gold rushes or other mineral booms.
They sprang up quickly wherever prospectors gathered and often disappeared just as fast when deposits ran dry.
Some evolved into permanent towns; most became ghost towns.
The mining camp had a general store, a saloon, and little else.
