gold pan
Stream bed tool
A gold pan is a wide, shallow dish used for separating gold from sand and gravel.
The prospector swirls water and sediment in the pan, allowing heavier gold particles to settle at the bottom while lighter material washes away: She spent the afternoon with a gold pan in the creek.
The technique is called panning for gold.
