outhouses
Detached latrine structures
Outhouses are outdoor toilets, typically small wooden structures built over a pit.
Before indoor plumbing became standard, the outhouse was a fixture of rural life: The old farmhouse still had an outhouse out back.
The word can also mean any outbuilding—a shed, barn, or storage structure separate from the main house—though the toilet sense now dominates.
