millepedes

Segmented soil dwellers

Millepedes is an alternate spelling of millipedes—long-bodied arthropods with many leg-bearing segments.

Despite the name suggesting a thousand feet, most species have between 30 and 400 legs.

Unlike centipedes, millipedes are slow-moving and typically feed on decaying plant matter rather than prey: Millepedes curled into tight spirals when disturbed.
