milkcaps
Latex-oozing forest fungi
Milkcaps are a genus of mushrooms (Lactarius) that release a milky liquid when their flesh is cut or broken.
Some species are edible and prized in certain cuisines, while others are bitter or mildly toxic.
The name comes from this distinctive latex-like secretion: We found several orange milkcaps near the birch trees.
