military heroes
Decorated combat soldiers
Military heroes are soldiers or other armed forces members celebrated for exceptional courage, sacrifice, or achievement in combat.
The phrase often carries patriotic weight, invoked in political rhetoric and public ceremonies: We honor our military heroes on Veterans Day.
Who qualifies as a hero varies by perspective—one nation's military hero may be another's enemy combatant.
