metro entrance
Transit system portal
A metro entrance is the point of access to an underground subway system, typically marked by signage and leading to stairs, escalators, or elevators descending below street level.
In cities with extensive subway networks, metro entrances become familiar landmarks: We agreed to meet at the metro entrance on the corner.
The term is especially common in cities that call their subway systems "metro"—Paris, Moscow, Washington D.C.
