metamorphopsia

Vision warps shapes

Metamorphopsia is a visual disturbance in which objects appear distorted—warped, bent, or the wrong size.

Straight lines may seem wavy, faces may look misshapen.

The condition typically results from problems with the retina or visual cortex, particularly macular degeneration: The Amsler grid test revealed metamorphopsia in her left eye.
