auditory hallucination
Hearing nonexistent noises
An auditory hallucination is hearing sounds—usually voices—that aren't actually present.
The experience feels real to the hearer but has no external source.
Auditory hallucinations are associated with schizophrenia and other psychiatric conditions, but also occur with sleep deprivation, certain medications, and grief: She heard her late husband calling her name.
